Turkey Launches Same-Day Biometrics to Fast-Track Citizenship Applications

The Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in Istanbul has debuted a priority biometrics system designed to drastically reduce the time investors must spend in the country. Effective February 9, 2026, the new procedure allows Citizenship by Investment applicants to complete their residence permit approval and citizenship submission in a single day.

This administrative shift eliminates the previous requirement to wait up to ten business days between stages, which often forced busy entrepreneurs to either remain in Turkey for two weeks or schedule multiple international flights. Under the streamlined process, applicants can now submit their documentation via email in advance and receive an expedited appointment slot within 48 hours. This fast-track service is available for a fee of TRY 44,000 for the main applicant and TRY 22,000 for each family member.

While the $400,000 real estate investment threshold and other eligibility criteria remain unchanged, the logistical hurdle of physical presence has been minimized. Applicants can now arrive in Istanbul, complete their fingerprinting in a dedicated priority section, and finalize their paperwork by the following morning. These changes support a total processing timeline that has now dropped to under three months from the initial application to the issuance of a passport.

The timing of this rollout is strategic, as Turkey seeks to maintain its position as one of the world’s most popular citizenship programs amidst stiff competition from the Caribbean and the Gulf. By offering an open-market real estate pathway—rather than restricting investors to specific government-approved developments—Turkey provides a level of flexibility that many find appealing. A Turkish passport currently offers access to over 110 destinations and provides a gateway to United States E-1 and E-2 treaty investor visas, all without requiring the applicant to learn the language or reside in the country long-term.
